WhatsApp for iPhone may soon offer users multiple accounts on one device

If you use the popular messaging app WhatsApp on an iPhone, you may find yourself wishing you could add more than one account. The good news is that a recent update to WhatsApp, released through Apple’s TestFlight beta program, includes this feature, suggesting it could soon be rolled out to anyone using WhatsApp on an iPhone.

Android users will scoff at this news as the feature has been available for WhatsApp on that platform since 2023. But hey, better late than never.

Setting up additional WhatsApp accounts on one device can be done in a few steps, but you will need a different phone number or a phone that supports more than one SIM card, or eSim.

WABetaInfo, which first reported the new feature, confirmed that the recent update “eliminated the need for multiple devices or parallel apps to manage different WhatsApp accounts, simplifying account management and increasing convenience for users.”

iPhone users can add a new account to WhatsApp in two different ways. The first involves setting the device as a primary account, while the second allows you to scan a QR code to link the new account as a companion account.

While users can organize all their conversations within one app, elements such as notifications, chats, backups and settings will remain different across accounts as they will all work independently within the app, according to WABetaInfo.

Until now, a workaround has had users uploading the WhatsApp Business app and using a different number for that account, but the new feature lets you use the main app to manage both numbers at the same time, meaning you don’t It takes longer to jump between apps.

There are many reasons why someone might want to have multiple WhatsApp accounts on one phone. It’s obvious to separate work and personal communications, and if you run multiple businesses, separating them allows you to manage things like customer interactions and branding for each activity. Additionally, some people may want to create different personas or profiles for different social circles or interests.
